One of my favorite memories this past Christmas here in Japan was ice skating at the Art Rink at the Red Brick Warehouse in Yokohama. We took the train to the Nihonodori Station and it’s about a 10 minute walk from there. I’ve never seen it not busy. Skating around with a packed rink is just part of the experience. Renting the shoes was a bit squeamish for me though. There’s no sanitizing the skates and they are still warm from the last person that had their stinky foot in it. I tried not to think about how many feet had been in mine before. Suck it up and experience Christmas ska ting in Japan.
Skating is 500yen for adults, 400yen elementary and junior high kids and 300yen for (3+). Skate rentals are an additional 500yen. I didn’t see a time limit. I’m not positive, but I believe the skating rink will be open through February 22, 2015 so there is still time to check it out!
Also going on in the Red Brick Warehouse area was the German style Christmas market, which was a little bit of a disappointment but pretty to look at. They had food vendors and the promise of German gifts but we only saw one Hutte (hut) selling cheap looking mugs. They seemed pretty picked over. If only they could get some authentic German vendors to sell here it would make such a difference! Almost all of the Hutte’s were food and drink vendors with ridiculously long lines. Still fun to walk through and see the lights after skating.
